Two-time championship coach Erik Spoelstra has agreed to a long-term extension with the Miami Heat team, according to ESPN.
Spoelstra is entering the final season of his contract and is again negotiating with the Miami Heat. Head coach Erik was second in the league’s second-longest-tenured active coach on a team, next to San Antonio Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich.
Spoelstra has the 12th season in the franchise as head coach at training camp on Tuesday. He posted a .590 regular-season winning percentage and .602 in the playoffs, including four NBA Finals appearances and two titles.
Some of the most famous NBA players that improved and developed by Spoelstra are the notorious big three Dwyane Wade, Lebron James, Chris Bosh, the era of the big three is one of the most well-known teams formed under the head coach Spoelstra.
The Heat didn’t make it to the playoffs this season, but they did get star Jimmy Butler, Spoelstra, 48, and spent his entire professional life with the Heat. He started in the video room until became an advance scout, and followed by the assistant coaching staff, and then in 2008, and he replaced former head coach Pat Riley who is now Heat president.
